MAJOR TRANSPORT PROJECTS BY 2008

The Ministry of Transport said it would use about $ 265 million
borrowed from the Asian Development Bank (ADB) to carry out four major
transport projects nationwide between now and 2008.
Of the sum, $ 60 million is targeted to come into building the
Kunming-Haiphong Corridor and upgrading 124 kilometers of National
Highways 2 and 70, $ 75 million will go to upgrading some 2,000
kilometers of road in central provinces, $ 60 million to developing
120 kilometers of National Highways 80 and 63 along the southern
coast, and $ 70 million to the second phase of road upgrades in the
central region.
Vietnam has so far used $ 465 million from the bank for seven projects
nationwide, including the upgrade of 1,666 kilometers of roads in 18
northern provinces, the upgrade of Saigon Port and roads linking Ho
Chi Minh City with Nha Trang, Hanoi with Lang Son and Quang Ngai with
Nha Trang. The country is now the biggest recipient of Asian
Development Bank (ADB) loans.
