BODY:
An almost-1,000-km long section of the trans-national Ho Chi Minh
highway, that runs from central Ha Tinh to central highlands Kon Tum
provinces, will be opened to traffic on Sept. 2, coinciding with the
country's National Day.
Builders have so far concreted nearly 600km of roadbed, built 178 out
of 198 bridges and installed 3,240 sewers totalling 46,500m. They have
also built two tunnels through mountains.
Construction of the Ho Chi Minh Highway, the second transnational
highway in Vietnam, started on April 5, 2000.
The 1,690-km highway will run from Hoa Lac village in northern Ha Tay
province to Ho Chi Minh City's Binh Phuoc Cross Roads along the
historical Ho Chi Minh Trail which was built in 1959.
