HEADLINE: INFRASTRUCTURE: VIETNAM, CAMBODIA DISCUSS TRANSPORT
COOPERATION
BODY:
Vietnam and Cambodia agreed to shortly complete protocols on bilateral
waterway and road transport cooperation and plans for transport lines
between the two countries and Laos, during a visit by the Vietnamese
Transport Minister Dao Dinh Binh from February 18-21.
The two sides also reached agreement to accelerate the project on the
Trans-Asia railway from Singapore to Kunming (China) that will run
through the three countries. The Vietnamese side provided Cambodia
with a feasibility study for the 70-kilometer National Highway 78 from
the shared border to the Cambodian capital of Phnom Penh, and asked
the foreign side for an investment plan. Vietnam also promised to help
Cambodia to finish the feasibility study of the remaining
120-kilometer section of the highway.
In mid-November of last year the minister also paid a visit to Laos to
discuss transport cooperation with the foreign country.
