HEADLINE: HCM CITY, VIETNAM TO BUILD US$36 MLN PHU MY BRIDGE
DATELINE: HANOI, Dec 2
BODY:
Preparations are underway for the construction of Phu My Bridge across
the Saigon River in a continued effort to facilitate traffic flow
between two new districts outside Ho Chi Minh City's downtown area.
The Phu My Bridge project, at an estimated cost of VND550 billion
(US$36 million), will link District 7 and District 2 and enable the
districts to develop production and business. The project is
established in the form of Build, Operate and Transfer (BOT) and is
scheduled for completion in three years.
According to a report made by the project's steering committee to the
city People's Committee Chairman, Le Thanh Hai, the Phu My Bridge
project is the first one for which the city will hold open bidding for
the selection of a suitable investor with professional skill and
financial capacity.
The investor must own property which is at least 30 per cent of the
value of the total cost of the project. Chairman Hai confirmed that
the Government will provide capital in advance for land clearance to
ensure that the building of Phu My Bridge project will be completed on
schedule. The cable-stayed bridge will have four traffic lanes, each
3.5m wide, and two 3m wide lanes for smaller, slower vehicles.
Its feeder road is 48m wide and the bridge will have a clearance of
45m. The result of the bidding is expected to be approved by January
next year. Bridge tolls will be collected for 26 years.
