Additional information about the recent consensus over upper Mekong
navigation

Note: The journalist envisions the development of upper Mekong
navigation with an old Chinese painting - "Qing Ming Shang He Tu",
which features the scenes of affluence and economic prosperity along
the Bian River in Northern Song Dynasty's capital, Bianliang (today's
Kaifeng city in China's Henan Province) about 1,000 years ago.

About the upper Mekong watercourse navigation map

According to the Lancang River Marine Bureau, the "upper Mekong
watercourse navigation map" will be completed in mid-June. The four
upper Mekong countries will use the standardised map created by the
Chinese authority. This is the first-ever standardised international
navigation map for the Lancang-Mekong River basin, which becomes a
landmark in the world's water transport history. Since then, commercial
navigation on Lancang-Mekong River will become safer, regulated and
orderly.

About the water transport of refined oil products

The plan for the transport of Liquefied Petroleum Gas and refined oil
products has been basically finalised. During the test run, between May
and December 2006, no more than 150 tonnes of refined oil products
will be transported no more than eight times per month. It will be only
limited to diesel and gasoline. It will be required to take steps to
ensure safe navigation and prevent from environmental impacts.

New ports on upper Mekong River

Myanmar has appointed Wan Pung as the open port, while Laos appointed
Meng Mo (?) and Ban Xiang Guo (?). The increasing opennes of Mekong
countries poses a new development opportunity for Yunnan's water
