The Yunnan-Guizhou-Guangxi Oil Exploration Bureau of China's Sinopec Group
has signed an agreement today on the trade of liquefied petroleum gas (LPG)
with Thailand's PTT Company. The director of the bureau, Lei Wenju said,
according to the agreement, the bureau will transport 2,400 tonnes of LPG on
land. On the completion of the first phase of the 100,000 tonne-Jinghong gas
terminal, the LPG will be transported through the Lancang-Mekong navigation
channel. The import will be expanded according to the market demand.
Mr. Lei said, using this agreement as the starting point, the bureau will
establish a long-term relationship on energy cooperation with PTT, including
LPG exploration, trade of LPG, oil products and other oil by-products.
In the second half of 2003, the bureau planned to build a terminal in
Jinghong, which can handle 3,000 tonnes of oil and 2,000 tonnes of LPG, as
the major outlet for LPG water transport channel between Yunnan and
Southeast Asia. Early this year, the construction project started, and will
be partly completed within this year.
