DATELINE: KUNMING
BODY:
Two expressways linking China's southwestern border province of Yunnan
with neighboring Vietnam opened for traffic recently, a local newspaper
reported.
The two freeways all start from the Hani-Yi Autonomous Prefecture of
Honghe, Yunnan Province, join with three other state highways and then
lead to Hekou, across a river from Lao Cai City in Vietnam, said the
latest edition of the Kunming-based Spring City Evening Newspaper.
With a total cost of 3.4 billion yuan (about 410.7 million US dollars),
the 98.47-kilometer-long Jijie-Shiping Highway and the 61.
75-kilometer-long Tonghai-Jianshui Highway are bi-directional and both
four-lane expressways.
The Hekou port, located in southern part of Yunnan, has become the largest
land route of Yunnan in its trade with Vietnam, and also the most
convenient southwest China port leading to southeastAsia.
Hekou has also become a transport hub for the Yunnan-Vietnam Railway, the
Kunming-Hanoi Highway and Honghe River waterway leading to Vietnam.
Customs statistics show that during the first 10 months of thisyear,
China-Vietnam trade volume through Hekou reached 2.3 billionyuan (about
277.9 million dollars), up 60 percent over the same period last year.
