Son Phak Village

Sonphak village is located on the drier section of the floodplain, at some distance from both the Mekong and the Sedone Rivers. Most families in Sonphak are primarily rice farmers, and fishing is very much a subsidiary occupation. However, many villagers access a wide range of fishery environments, including riverine, stream, ricefield and pond fisheries.

Dimensions of indigenous fisheries

Indigenous fisheries can be seen as a livelihood system consisting of multiple dimensions. Different villages depend on different water sources at different times of the year for fishing; the uses for fish vary within and between villages, and from one season to another; the sources of fish for consumption varies from one season to another; as does the consumption of fish.
