Strategic Regional Capacity-building (Infrastructure Development)

This two month project aimed at strategic capacity building, which involves the identification of key institutions (in this case in-country policy research institutes) to develop a regional network capable of screening assessments of regional infrastructure developments associated with the Greater Mekong Subregion investment program. Building on a one-year project, carried out from January-December 1999 between the AMRC and the National Economic Research Institute (NERI) of the State Planning Committee in Lao PDR, and on other research collaborations, the project sought to develop regional linkages between existing AMRC partners in Laos, Thailand, Vietnam and Cambodia, and develop new linkages. The aim of these linkages is to build regional capacity in infrastructure planning, enhance critical assessment capabilities that currently rely mainly on external consultants, and to provide for cooperation in assessing projects with cross-border impacts.
